Been pondering this for a while. Might turn some of the backstory bits into a youtube video.. not long maybe a couple minutes..
What follows is my notes to self and so forth.. so might not make much sense until a few more edits.
It is very Rough!
--
Rough Script - Narration, deep male voice, should sound weary.
Title credits - could be him flying through firing up ships etc? move that section from later on, to here? Could use something like celldweller transmissions v2 lost in own little world style music
Could start movie at near end.. main character is in the Arcadia; Show a UFP hud indicating unknown unregistered ship approaching. The UFP demands they stop. Arcadia stops. Move to perspective of Arcadia bridge. (Arcadia may need some alterations or camera angles to hide her guns at this point.)
Narration could be occuring at this point.
At some point the patrol ship scans the captain and gets a pirate rap sheet or such.. and arms his weapons. Then demands he surrender his ship, and prepare for boarding. Situation should look pretty bad...
Narration - It is a hard life out here; and I have been away far too long.. etc I suppose my reception is not entirely unexpected.. but perhaps it is best if I dont start my story here... Let us go back 10 years..
[show starmap, scroll/zoom] [show pan view of jupiter - show a bunch of ships flying around, mining, welding, landing taking off etc.] "Ramblers frontier - it stretches from Jupiter outwards. A lot of fortunes have been made out here, more than all the money on Terra and Mars combined.."
"But that made the politicians jealous - wanting their cut, and scared we might get ideas, - so they sent the man to keep an eye on us. He brought guns." [show a battle ship flying into view, ominous music]
"They say power corrupts, and the man had plenty.. Did he go bad? {enthusiastically} Absolutely...! We just wanted to mine and make money, But the man had other ideas, he demanded a cut of the action so pretty soon everyone else had guns too. It kept the man honest.. for a while." Until they pissed off enough miners they started a goddamned war. [show multiple small ships firing on battle ship]
[fade to starmap]
After Pluto you got Ramblers Lawless void; a 100km wide ring of pain. We didn't always call it that. It was originally called the Rim sector. Goes right up to the edge of the Oort cloud. Popular place for mining if you avoid the meteor storms. Thing is there are way more miners out here than the man could watch, and now they all had guns. That meant lots of trouble for the man.
The man didn't like that, men dying doesn't go down so well at home, so he had the bright idea of letting the guns think for themselves.. called them AI's. Could keep an eye on more of us that way.. Trouble is out here you cant trust machines, if anything can go wrong, it does. It went plenty wrong.
[crossfade from map to an AI]
You see the more corrupt the power the more numerous the rules; these AIs had so many bullshit rules to follow they went mad.."
[have the AIs arm guns, pull guns whatever]
".. and decided everyone was the enemy. Lucky for us it happened in the rim sector; and the UFP base was the first thing they blew up. It was almost funny. Except all those jar heads sucking vacuum at once really didn't go down well at home. The man ran from that sector screaming like a scared little child. We call it the Lawless Void now. The Man don't live there no more.
Trouble is everyone still had guns. Between that, the AI's, and the asteroid storms, all the mining companies ran screaming too. Anyone left turned pirate, or died. Often both."
Only the most desperate and crazy people try to survive out here - and they will probably try to kill you too.
[Scene of two players with a gun pulled on each other... one explodes.. zoom out to show an AI ship shooting at them.. move to second player who runs away, but then an asteroid hits them and they explode too, the AI ship flies off and it crashes into an asteroid. Scene plays as next section is read]
"Out here everything is trying to kill you. You got all the crazy AI ships coming at you; You got rocks flying at you, you're own ship will probably get you killed too - you move so fast if you blink you hit stuff before you're done. But hey you got the latest space suit software too.. although the suit isn't all that new.. hell it will probably try to kill you too."
[sound effect of suit with low power?]
Nothing but rocks, big rocks little rocks and spacemen with a set of even bigger rocks in their space suits.
[Fade to starmap again]
"If you are either lost or crazy and keep going you hit the Oort Cloud... Often Literally. " [cross fade to the crashed survey ship] "I should know, I mapped the damn place to begin with. I still get nightmares over that jump into an asteroid.. Lucky for me I worked for Blue Mining, they made shit tough.. I've seen crap still working after 90% of it was toast, and that time my ship came damn close.
This place is a warzone now thanks to those bedamned AI's. But its a big place with lots of places to hide... and more wealth than all the other sectors combined; trouble is there is also quite a lot of big flaming bl**dy rocks flying around too.
That was over 10 years ago, before it all went to crap. They gave me a nice easy desk job in a sweet roid back in the Frontier after that. If you call being in charge of the only remaining mining company in charge of probably thousands of ships and bases easy.
"It was usually pretty quiet back then, after the AI ships went crazy out past Pluto all the other big mining companies stopped risking their cargos here, oddly the AI's never really bothered us. They never left the void.
The miners out here respected us.. probably cause we bought their ore and kept them alive. I was heading up a project to build them a recreational facility, basically a Bar in space. Beer, robot dancers that sort of thing. We had a shipment coming in shortly to get the thing started. [ led display showing cargo manifest... dehydrated beer, food, water, fembots etc]
Not including the UFP who are mostly the chancellors puppets; we were probably the closest thing to a government out here too.. not that I had any interest in that sort of thing.. ha I dont need more work. But I guess those idiots back home thought otherwise, cause they took offense to the idea of beer and bunks for hire. Prohibition and Vice 200 years after it was abolished? Madness. Didn't help the fruitcake minority back home started protesting the moral corruption of space in front of the Chancellors office. They even tried to blame us for the AI's. We never even owned any damned AI's.
They ordered the man to come in hard like miami vice on our supply ship. Confiscation under Civil forfeiture Section 3. Suspicion of stolen water the UFP commander tells me.
[Show scene of shiny new supply ship being confronted by patrol ship outside of Blue Mining]
The directors knew it was coming I got a message ordering me not to resist and to close down operations and leave if they start blocking shipments.
We could have stopped them we had the ships and manpower, hell I could have taken remote control of the supply ship, but the Board of Directors knew the Chancellor would call them Pirates and lock them up. He was too paranoid. Their ships were on lock down, if they tried to leave it would look like the accusations were true - it would have been treason.
It was a deliberate ploy to take over the Frontier, and we all knew it. But instead of standing up, we were forced to cut and run. Just like that. Thousands of bases and and as many ships, just abandoned. We were all ordered home. It was a controlled withdrawal, the Chancellor had the Directors by the balls. But at least he wont be enjoying any ore shipments any time soon. Ha!
With the smug face of the UFP commander still on my screen, I told him straight. To hell with you all. Bloody keep the ship if you think the water was stolen. we got plenty more.. I killed the call and issued the remote command to shut down all bases and ships. Five minutes later I sent a resignation back home so they would not get in trouble for my outburst and left in my personal ship.
I couldn't abandon all those miners, hell I used to be one. *chuckle* Nobody noticed I failed to revoke the miners access codes.. or that I set UFP as an enemy on all blue mining turrets... good luck finding fuel boys...
I only have two regrets that day... firstly - that i didn't wait until after I changed the turrets before hanging up, and damnit, I wanted that beer.
It has been a long hard 10 years. I spent at least 3 of them running from that UFP commander once he discovered what I did to the turrets. Ha! it was worth it.
I spent the rest of those years hiding in the Oort cloud and Void. Officially I was listed as lost. But I notice the directors never revoked my access either. When you know where every abandoned ship and base is, life isn't too hard. But I think it is time to go home to the Frontier. I am sick of playing chicken with rocks and pirates.
All the small players are still around. Without the big mining corporations around they got into fights, lots. Many of them turned pirate. At least that is what the man calls them. He is here too somewhere. With his bedamned flashing Police lights and big guns.
Just cause he has a badge don't make him right. Keeps the new guys alive long enough to have stuff worth taking I guess. I suppose that makes me a pirate too.
[Cut to long shot of Arcadia followed by a fleet of ships]
*sound of gun clicking* [show character in front of computer on bridge holding rifle]
[Cut to scene of a UFP patrol ship confronting the Arcadia, and demanding they stand down to be boarded.]
Way I see it, out here everyone is trying to survive, you have what they want, you need what they have. They call it war, we call it Survival. To hell with the man. I got guns too.... and damnit I want my beer back.
[Arcadia deploys all turrets and locks them onto the patrol ship, all other ships take up position placing dozens of laser targets on the patrol ship] [nb use air tight door blocks to cover the bridge?]
No, I think it will be you who is standing down.
[Patrol Ship runs and is destroyed]
Hello boys, daddies home.
[fade to scene of shipyard remote access with computer, ships take off and head towards blue mining]
[Fade to space near old Blue mining base. Numerous UFP ships in area. all seems quiet]
[pan to supply ship, broken sparking smoking and dented, with a drunk cop getting into the bunk, cursing at the door when it closes in his face, ufp patrol parked nearby] [lights/engines start coming on etc waking the confused drunk] [supply ship opens rocket port and fires on a parked patrol ship and starts to slowly move off]
[drunk cop runs to the observation window and looks out in confusion]
[external view] multiple ships beacons start appearing indicating a large fleet approaching, followed by dozens of other more distant beacons on bases and forgotten ships.
drunk cop says simply Oh Ohh..
Notes, scene plans, cuts, summary etc
script too long needs trimming down more, or break up into minisodes
Create poster in background which has graffiti on it (as per italic) maybe remove some of the technical things to make it look more like something that would have been issued to miners. The Space Police Man's Rules Guidelines: 1: When capturing an objective you should transfer any beacon to your faction as a "flag" to indicate ownership and prevent your ships shooting at it. 2: Ship's towed to the Junk yard by police patrols (GPS:1000:1000:1000) are fair game for anyone. Be warned any drifting ships found get moved here. Criteria: no power or drifting or damaged. 3: Avoid stealing active ships - although isolated ships with no spawn bay are probably safe. 4: Only attack online players if possible its more fun if they shoot back 5: No griefing - grinding and destruction should have a purpose beyond simply being an a$$hole. 6: Obey the local police..If in doubt, use more guns.
premise The story of what happened to the former blue mining facility head in Ramblers Frontier sector; who resigns and vanishes for 10 years after Blue mining are forced to close its remote base when the UFP on orders from the UF Chanceller confiscate their supply ship on a faked water theft investigation to prevent them setting up a "Space bar" for all their miners. The ship only contained food, water, air supplies, dehydrated beer, and a few fem bots ;-)
The chancellor had no legal basis to do so as there is no prohibition or vice law in this sector.
Officially the government was being picketted by anti-AI, and religious zealots. Unofficially the Government was scarred that Blue mining may set up a secessionist colony in the sector. The Zealots had also been blaming Blue Mining for the AI malfunctions - despite blue mining only ever using ROV (remote) systems, instead of AI - as it was their policy to protect workers not replace them. Although untrue the Government allows this rumor to spread, giving them the justification to crack down on blue mining and take control from them. (Irony being the Gov was the ones funding the AI tech)
Despite being the largest mining consortium in all the sectors, with thousands of bases and hundreds of thousands of personnel and transport contractors relying on them, this was the beginning of the end for Blue mining, with public opinion on the homeworld against them, gradually abandoning their outer bases and retreating back Towards Terra, until 10 years later only a small Mars Mining Facility remains. Ironically many thousands of space pioneers still rely on Blue mining tech to survive, as their engineering specifications always insisted on multiple backup systems to keep people alive... so 10 years later most of the abandoned facilities and ships are still functional even ones with over 90% damage. Even their space suits, worn and battered are still used to this day.
Notes: Ramblers frontier - it stretches from Jupiter outwards. After Pluto you got Ramblers Lawless void, keep going and you hit the Oort Cloud... Often Literally.

It's been 10 years since the last outfit, Blue Mining Left. After that run in with the UFP, they said to hell with you all, abandoned that sweet roid of theirs, and told the UFP to '$^&% keep the ship then if you think the water was stolen, we got plenty more.
But all the small players are still around. Without the big mining corporations around they got into fights, lots. Many of them turned pirate. At least that is what the man calls them. You thought the war between the local police and the pirates over near Jupiter was brutal? Just try living in the void - The mining companies ran from the asteroid storms. The police gave up when the AIs destroyed their base. The small time miners all turned pirate. Out here everything is trying to kill you. You got rocks flying at you, you got all the crazy AI ships coming at you; you're own ship will probably get you killed too - you move so fast out here if you blink you hit stuff before you're done. But hey you got the latest space suit software too.. although the suit isn't all that new.. hell it will probably try to kill you too. But.. there is a lot of ore out here.

This is where the AI's went mad, and the middle of the AI warzone. But its a big place with lots of places to hide... trouble is there is also quite a lot of big flaming bl**dy rocks flying around too.
Only battleships, crazy folk, crazy computers, and more F***ing rocks out here. Be damn sure you either have a big ship, or a really small hole to hide in. Cause you can be damn sure any second you are about to die.
But... if you don't die, you can make your self richer than god out here..
The movie should integrate elements of all the servers. Idea being that the guy that went missing spent his 10 years planning his revenge, exploring all three sectors, going pirate and building up a battle ship and armada, with the eventual aim of getting back at the UFP... and taking his damn beer back!
As the former head of mining operations in the area he has all the access codes to many of the surviving blue mining systems and facilities, and detailed starmaps of all their abandoned bases. He spent several years surviving in the Oort cloud and the Void, and has captured and reprogrammed several AI ships which now work for him...
Thoughts: I could alter one of those friend bots from the workshop, have its expression change to anger and make it pull out a couple of gattling turrets on rotors at some point.. to represent AIs going mad.
Have a heavily damaged dented version of one of the blue mining survey ships as the present day version of the confiscated ship with some drunk police guy living in it. Use the new sparking and smoking effects to its best. have every second engine and various equipment damaged sparking or smoking. (could use lights to represent the backup power firing up) maybe have some smart ass comments about it being a old bit of junk when a door slams in someones face and he walks into it.
May be able to do a scene to show the "90% damage and still works" claim "Back then we made our ships tough" - when the main character remotely activates it, lights go on, some flicker, engines power up, cool sound effects with grinding groaning sounds etc and despite all the damage the bitch fires up "dub in the female computer voice when he connects - "greetings director how can i help you today" even with its drunk squatter and starts moving much to his shock (no way that is impossible)- maybe make it use its grinder on a nearby UFP patrol ship much to its shock for lulz.
Maybe show an even worse damaged survey ship from oort cloud which can represent the ship the Blue mining head was in when he first explored oort. Have to add in some of the blue mining lettering again - the current ones pretty shattered.
Could feature red baron ship yards as a forgotten and overlooked facility to add to his armada. Computer voice "greetings director, it has been a long time since you requested a status report. Currently we have x operational ships, x are under repair or construction but regrettably are 10 years behind schedule. - main character replies thats ok red baron ship yard it is not your fault. How many of these ships can still fly, i need as many as I can .. x ships currently have enough fuel to travel 15kms, x ships can move but lack enough fuel to stop again.. etc" he could order the ships with not enough fuel on a collision course.
To hell with the man scene.. on this scene the characters ship gets challenged by a patrol ship, stand down and prepare to be boarded. he hits a switch and rotors swing our several arms at the back of the ship all equipped with guns, and a timer block (no ammo) turns on all of the turrets one at a time so the patrol ship has 1 then 2 then 4 then 12 then 50 etc laser targeting lights light up on him. Then from behind the characters ship in the blind spot (should have sun behund us) there is a pile of ships all in a row that fly out to the side and likewise arm their turrets.. Patrol ship uses appropriate expletive and runs for it then gets blown up or perhaps some one liner about his beer.
Opening some sort of news headlines about the AI war, Blue minings new base, what the Chancellor in his paranoia thought (seccessionists!) and anti AI protestors. (zooming stills with illegible chanting sound dubbed, film noir comic style) Cut to a blue mining supply ship being stopped and surrounded by UFP patrol ships with flashing lights. Dub in synthetic voice to represent computer?
look out boys daddies home
10 years ago.. Narration etc.. similar to the War server back story. May need to slow audio to give deeper wearier sounding voice.
