To claim a region consider the following:
Have you already claimed one or more regions up to 100000 blocks?
Who do you want as owners or members
How deep does it need to go, or do you need to redefine an existing area?
What name to give the claim?
What flags you want (eg greetings/farewell or PVP on or off)
Firstly lets assume you don't have an existing area or it is too small to be an issue.
There are two ways to "select" the area to claim - 1 - type //wand, this gives you a wood axe that you can left and right click to select the two points. Left click is like standing in the target block and typing //pos1, right click is like standing in the target and typing //pos2
2 - Use //pos1 and //pos2 This takes the position you are standing on (and 1 block up) as position 1 or 2.
When selecting your area, imagine an invisible Cube/Box around your claim. Pos1 would be the Bottom left (front) corner, and Pos2 would be the top right of the BACK corner (see diagram attached)
Note: selecting a region does not claim it YET.
You may need to dig down to set position 1 if you have a basement, and stack blocks in a tower to set position 2.
Also try to include 2 or 3 blocks (or more if you can) of "buffer space" outside your claim, otherwise other players may try to build where it would block access to your building, or be too close and look awful, or you might not have room to expand later, or griefers may try to flow lava, tnt or water into your zone to harm it.
Once you have your area set, you need to decide who you want as members or co-owners.
Note: at the moment owners can only be set when CREATING a claim, but members can be added or removed on an EXISTING claim.
If you only want yourself as the owner, and you want to call your claim "bobs_place" type the following: /region claim bobs_place
If you only want yourself as the owner, and a friend "harry" type the following: /region claim bobs_place harry
If you wish to add members (builders) to your claim (eg Bob) type the following: /region addmember bobs_place Bob
to remove them later type: /region remmember bobs_place Bob
If you want to change the message displayed when you walk into your claim type: /region flag bobs_place greeting Welcome %name%!
You can also show a message when leaving: /region flag bobs_place farewell Bye bye %name%
If you don't want PVP (players killing you) in your claim type: /region flag bobs_place pvp deny
Or use "allow" to turn it on.
Final Notes: If you have too many regions claimed already - up to 100000 blocks or more than a handful of particular claims it will not allow you to make a claim. In this case either remove an old claim you no longer need - /region delete bobs_place
or ask an a staff member to create it for you and add you as owner.
If you need to redefine your area and no admin is available, then mark your pos1 / pos2 on the new area, delete the region, then immediately claim it again. Depending on your access you can also use the code "redefine" instead of delete which simply updates the area.
Be careful who you add as an owner, as they can delete your region or turn PVP on!! It is safer to just add members!
Player claims cannot overlap another persons claim normally. The only exception to this rule is if an admin defines the region, with setpriority 5, or a parent/child region setup is used. Either case only an admin can do this.
