Right guys, you know I've been cracking down on unethical players recently. Matty was one of the players who has been extremely shrewd and uncooperative. Because he's been a long time member, I've let him off almost everything with just fines. But he just does not get the message. Just recently he has asked players to give him nether spells (this is why I wanted to outlaw /cast teach). Someone (I know who) taught him a spell from the nether (explosivearrow and zeus) upon his request.
Demoted to soldier. I'll put him back when I feel he's come to his senses again, or until Pho/Grim tells me to do otherwise. Let this serve as an example to all of you. You cannot escape from me.
To pho/grim: PM me with any concerns.

It shouldn't be too hard to add the permission to a specific group e.g. Inquisitor and above What do you think?

Yeah that's the solution I moved for earlier, and me and pho worked it out, and we managed to remove teach for a few weeks, then soon after some update people were able to do it again.

AFAIK nobody should have or be able to cast the teach spell anymore except staff - So the question is, how are players getting the teach spell now ... hmm Another bug for me to work out no doubt. Actually Firstly I'll try a global disable of the teach spell.. trouble is I suspect this also breaks spell bookcases Secondly I have wiped everyones nether world spell books. Some spells will re-grant automatically; others will need to be re-located from the dueling arena. i would suggest players go to the nether, then quit and rejoin to trigger the "grant" event to get their rank spells back. Thirdly I am going to remove any global cast permission and only specify spells you are actually allowed to have from now on... which is a pain for me The only reason cast* was on was to allow wizards to take on apprentices, but apparently nobody understands this concept.. so without teach you will have to craft spell scrolls instead - which makes more sense in an apprentice context anyway. This means i have to test the following: Can players still learn from bookcases? Has any ranks on other planets been messed up now by propogating permissions? Can players with the teach spell still cast it? *sigh* nobody really gets just how time consuming messing with perms in 16+ worlds is. I do like to go to bed early occasionally.

Also what probably happened after we took off teach is some staff member did /cast teach player teach and then the cycle started.

Once you negate a spell it can't be cast Have a look at the negates I setup in techno class.

ya grim, but i figured switching from black list to white list style spells perms made more sence in long run. I should have had them that way to begin with, but to be honest using spellcast* and using bookcases to regulate was my lazy way out at the time. Which didnt allow for staff using teach and starting the cycle. This way it cant be taught at all except from book cases.
