InfoRunning 1.7.5 R1 TEST
As of 2011 we were running a dedicated windows minecraft server; on a shared PC. 1GB allocated to Minecraft. We could handle about 12 players.
As of 2012 we started running a dedicated Linux Minecraft server. Short of moving it to a data centre server, this is as good as it gets lag wise. Uptime is now counted in weeks not days. Our testing shows, that (depending mainly on each players connection) we can handle up to 19 players at once; although things get a little rubbery at that level.
2013: Running a more powerful linux server now, but we dropped players to 15 as we have many many plugins, and many GB of world maps. Note:If i can get an NBN link in, and a 20 meg uplink, about 300 players is as good as I can get without a data centre. Yowzer! (considering the datacentre i had in mind only allowed 50 players.....) Server Status - - - 16/8/14 - Down for unknown amount of time, the auto restart seemed to choke - disabled citizens again, crashes seem to cooincide with that being enabled. *grumble grumble* NPCs would be nice bukkit.. if you were not such wankers with changing the library calls and breaking plugins every 12.81 seconds.
- 8/6/14 - Down to do some minor updates to vault and economy
- 13/3/14 - Down to do some work on the worlds. No ETA on uptime
- 28/2/14 - server up and down due to testing and config changes
- 3/12/13 - server offline - need to do testing for latest bukkit release
- 12/11/13 - ongoing - getting random gen structure crashes, cannot trace back to cause - appears to be something in 1.6.4 cant work out what - have disabled multiverse at the moment as a test to see if it stops.
- 1/11/13 to 10/11/13 bunch of map and plugin maintenance to prepare for 1.7.2, also a full backup
- 31/10/13 Halloween! Server offline to attempt to move files to bigger hard disk. Online but generating chunks at the moment.
- 21/09/13 Yes it was updated to 1.6.4
- 17/09/13 Yes it was down an hour. SP austnet testing the inducters in the meter board. Sorry.
- 5/09/13 Up and down twice with an odd worldborder glitch while trying to fill out empty chunks, rearranged some world files. Nothing seems to have been lost this time except my sanity.
- 1/9/13 Down a few times after discovery of massive sections of map had simply regenerated; in order to restore more map; ticket system added, survival games beta installed
- 26/8/2013 Down to clear up diskspace and re-render the world map - WORLD DATA MAY HAVE BEEN LOST :/
- 19/8/2013 Just ran an audit on all the plugins and updated any that needed doing. This is to move closer to the next inevitable update. The more of these little updates we do, the quicker we are up on big updates.
- 8/8/13 ISP lost some routers for 3 hours.. server itself stayed up. Presumably they found them again since I am writing this.
- 18/7/13 permissions eating themself, regurgitated it to an earlier version
- July Handful of ups and downs while switching to 1.6.2 with hoooorrsssesss
- 23/6/2013 to 24/6/2013 a few ups and down due to memory leaks and glitches
- 22/6/2013 GC overflow error, preceeded by a bunch of moved wrong errors.. best guess hacked client overloaded it. Gee Thanks guys..
- 23/5/2013 Some performance tweaks, and plugin /timings metrics audits (lag *stab stab*)
- 22/5/2013 A few out of hours restarts, and a reboot to load new 1.5.1 texture pack.
- 18/5/2013 Other than some incidental glitches last month, for an afternoon (sorry!) only downtime was 5 minutes today to update to current plugins.
- 31/1/2013 Mystery Heap space exception at midnight. Back up now.
- 4/1/2013 Server down due to power station having hand glider crashed into it, and second station overloaded by all the air cons..
- 31/12/2012 up and down a few times while attempting to get magicspells, world edit and a newer bukkit beta going
- 23/12/2012 after a late night testing the core plugins are at basic functionality. So server is back.
- 22/12/2012 down updating map, and auditing plugins
- 7/12/2012 down while attempting to update but getting fails on citizens, craftbook, vanish no packet and lockette - back to r01 then.
- 6/12/2012 had a few glitches with tardis plugin, now disabled, server should be stable now *crosses fingers*
- 1/12/2012 reset tangents player file, but the crash seems to have caused another issue in lockette to surface allowing all doors and chests to be opened by anyone, have reverted to an earlier bukkit to work around issue but this may cause implications with other plugins.
- 1/12/2012 TangentSpy tried to tppos to 785 blocks outside of the vertical bounds of the physical map file, and at location x=nul y=nul causing a crash, then after that the server appeared to crash everytime a few people joined (or he himself tried to join)
- 30/11/2012 update complete in testing phase.. We now have timelords.
- 30/11/2012 offline rendering map for weekend, dont panic be back soon. Also updating a few out of date plugins.
- 16/11/2012 offline to attempt a map render
- 12/11/2012 up and down a few times to implement more efficient monetization support
- 5/11/2012 to 9/11/2012 various restarts for testing updates and plugins. No issues just run up tests. Our frontier worlds are back too.
- 4/11/2012 10:50am quick update to worldguard/world edit.. yay no more dev and it loaded ok.. *phew*
- 3/11/2012 8pm+ Something odd happened here. Best guess attempt was made to login with hacked client and someone spawned a wither.. beyond that nothing sticks out other than a cpu deadlock at that point onwards.
Doing update to main bukkit and a reboot shortly. Cross fingers.
- 29/10/2012 15:00 NPCs are back, as are disguises, stargates still down
- 29/10/2012 11:00 playing a game of chase the bukkit, next dev build
- 28/10/2012 ok bukkit up again on main world, - bye bye multiverse, npcs, disguises, other planets
- 27/10/2012 stole warpigs vanilla server while i waited on bukkit
- 27/10/2012 - oh joy a sneaky friday update to 1.4.2
- 26/10/2012 - its up again, theres also technic running a test
- 26/10/2012 - updating mineos hopefully be up before weekend
- 29/9/2012 various plugin updates...
- September - handful of downs caused by storms taking out power and internet links briefly. Out of my my control.
- August - 1.3.1 came out.. what can i say... few downs while we migrate over
- July - handfull of ups and downs mostly up, except for an unscehduled update caused by certain things and people who shall remain nameless
- 2/6/2012 - ARGH!.. we fixed the trader bug, then someone found another bug and promptly deleted everyones NPCS! Server down while i try to salvage the npc datafiles from earlier in the week. Fingers crossed. FIXED!
- 1/6/2012 - ARGH!.. ok yes that is the sound of a server's power supply exploding. Lucky i found another one laying around that fit.
- 31/5/2012 - 1/6/2012 - assorted little outages server hardware upgraded and new ranking quests added
- 27/5/2012 - something odd going on here, can't access the domain for the entire hosting system, server may be up but only if we connect with IP
- 18/5/2012-22/5/2012 - Assorted small outages while worlds were generated.. oops i left status set to off sorry!
- 17/5/2012 - Assorted small outages while plugins and stargate network was enabled
- 1/5/2012 - Around this time and the weekend something has been causing memory overflows. Server was restarted and all seemed ok but it played up again today. I suspect someone is using a hacked client crack which is crashing out one or more plugins. Whatever it is, gobbled up so much memory the actual PC crashed offline not just the minecraft game server so even fallback server went down. (this is why i suspect it is deliberate 1 server is a glitch, 2 servers totally unrelated has to be deliberate) will update any plugins and core files and reboot server today sometime. Hopefully it nails the exploit.
- 11/4/2012 - server went up and down up and down - no problem, just updated and tested some plugins .. VEHICLES are back but dont work right yet. *wink*
- 5/4/2012 - Incremental update 1.2.5. Nothing to see here, move along.
- 24/3/2012 - Oh yay another update, hello 1.2.4. Updated BTW. Go play *waves hand gesture*
- 5/3/2012 - Yes its working, we lost movecraft and lighting tools tho so our flying machines are offline for now.
- 3/3/2012 - OK, V1.2.3 everything important but Lockette is working (door/chest locks) not adventurous enough to let anyone on until all those locked chests are erm locked! So all your stuff is ready to come back - just waiting one that last plugin.
- 2/3/2012 - R7? (mc 1.23) released f*** me i only just got R6 to boot damnit!
- 2/3/2012 - R6 (mc 1.2) released on friday, yay.. down we go again to check 19 plugins (
- 26/2/2012 Sorry finishing up some perms I missed, restarted twice..
- 25/2/2012 Restarted server a few times to try to nail the new user no default usergroup issue (now we know why everyone new leaves!)
- 24/2/2012 Spend 12 hours going over and fixing all the permissions server restarted once
- 24/2/2012 Upgraded to R4, and as many plugins that would load without errors after updates. Updated Perms to bperm 4
- 24/2/2012 Finally moving to permissions 4+ hard decision - but too many genital heads are refusing to support Perm 3 even tho all the new perms are based or inspired by it. Server will be down a while.
- 5/2/12 Server would have been up if there was any power.. big scary storm took out the power for a while, all good otherwise.
- 31/1/12 Our little SQL experiment seems to be working. Although due to people building in insanely remote locations I had to increase the xyz integer table size. And for some odd reason I have not discovered, the server refused connections to everything but ping for a few minutes today. Otherwise all seems well!
- 30/1/12 To conserve ram, Disabled minecart mania, and superlog, enabled SQL fully and put in LogBlock instead. This should also cut some lag off. Note: This plugin lets us reverse everything a player did, so if you built something epic, and stole blocks to make it, we can undo your grief AND your epic build in one command. Don't grief!
- 30/1/12 Not a crash, storm hit, (think world editing in an entire ocean above the shop) Router disconnected for a while, server kept going.
- 29/1/12 Ok, wierd, somehow (someone?) launched the same MC server 6 times? At the same time 4 instances of c10t map were fired off as well, causing at least 4 instances of the server engine to try loading the same map file. According to the log one instance was forced to shut down about 4 today, but as it was shutting down a second instance had been started. I am scratching my head what happened there.
Map file may now be corrupted - so some changes are likely damaged or lost entirely if you logged on today at all.
- 28/1/12 Oddly enough we lost DNS in etc/resolv.conf this shouldn't occur unless dhcp fires off (its set static) Appears the latest magicspells update is broken as well (damn it had a food spell and other new cool stuff) i will have to try to chase a new compile of craftbukkit and retry which given the jenkins is offline might be difficult. Have tried 1 version older (and one newer than last week) which appears to run. Still chasing memory leak, have given Darkportal an extra 512 ram to play with lets see what happens!
- 28/1/12 left server running overnight off our big shop server to test. Interestingly we still lost memory. It appears we have a big mother of a memory leak now in one of the plugins. I may have to disable a few and see if I can work out which. Also moving new HD over to the smaller dedicated MC server now.
- 27/1/12 - server taken down to move to bigger faster hard disk and do a few little update bits
- 24/01/12 - I know you cant see it! Have to reconfigure the server security due to IP change.. oh joy! be up in about 10 minutes OK!
- 24/01/12 - server is up again. Inventories can be restored on request, just have them stored elsewhere to avoid issues when bug hunting. DON'T PANIC!
- 23/01/12 - just had our router cook itself, so we are offline! Plus we seem to be having some peculiar issues with the server itself which I will need to look into once its online again.
- 23/01/12 - overflow on map file - suspect either malformed /nick abuse or incorrect use of region claim - - nick now disabled due to abuse, and all player files reset.
- 20/1/12 - notch released another "sneaky friday" update, not sure what it did, but i get openGL client errors now at random.
- 16/01/12 - essentials 271 failed, userdata currupted, updated to 272, and latest spellscraft (which fixes flying spell yay!)
- 15/01/12 - Lana blew up Lexys game PC - ill have to fix stuff at work, or on Lexy's old desktop in Lanas room!
- 14/01/12 - We installed R2 to match the sneaky friday update.
- 13/01/12 - Minecraft released a sneaky friday update
- 23/12/11 - Main XP server went down, switched it all to Linux Dedicated Crux to mark the occasion.
